How we built the first Google Developer Student Clubs at ELTE

Hello! Currently, we have over 180 active members and we would like to share how we built the first community at our campus with the goal of bridging the gap between university and industry!

GDSC is a Google Developers program for university students, designed to help them build their development skills and knowledge in peer to peer environment. Google Developer Student Clubs are now in 110+ countries with 1500+ groups.

In the year 2021–2022, we applied to the program and for the first time Google Developer student clubs we become the pioneers of Multiple Leads Chapter 🎉🎉🎉

After two weeks of intense planning and countless interviews, we built the CORE TEAM 📅🚀

We are organized in three big circles Tech, Events, and Social Media!

Having multiple leads in the chapter gives an opportunity to proceed with the chapter without any delay. When I am busy with exams Aamna and Shafakat organized the events and when they were overwhelmed with studies I hosted the planned events with the core team. We were always passing the responsibilities and that is how we made it to the end 😀

We organized Google Hashcode 2022 💡 hybrid and in-person with GDSC BME, Pecs, Debrecen, Women Techmakers, and GDG Budapest.

We hosted an Introduction to Firebase event inviting Dominik who is a Google Firebase expert 👨‍💻

We invited former Google interns from India 🇮🇳, Romania 🇷🇴, and Mongolia 🇲🇳 to the Google Internship opportunities open discussion event.

Most of our members are international students and it is difficult to go back to the home country during the study abroad. So we celebrated Christmas together with a Potluck dinner and boards games 🥘 🍲 🥣 🥗

It has been a very challenging journey for the core team yet we are very proud of our members for making it until the end and managing their time and overcoming the struggles during exam weeks! 🕺💃🕺🕺💃🕺

What an awesome year for us to meet after covid, make new friends, and spend time learning and growing together in the Google Developer student club! 👏👏👏
